This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit the site, the hosting provider automatically processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of access in server logs. This is necessary to deliver the website and to ensure its security (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest).
The signup form on this website is provided by our newsletter provider MailerLite (MailerLite Limited, Ground Floor, 71 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, D02 P593, Ireland).
The form loads directly from MailerLite's servers when you open the page, which means your IP address and basic browser information are transmitted to MailerLite even if you do not sign up. The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in offering a functioning signup form (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If you do sign up, your email address is processed by MailerLite so we can send you updates about the book. The signup uses double opt-in: you will receive a confirmation email, and your address is only added to the list once you confirm. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
To show that consent was validly given, as required by Art. 7(1) GDPR, we record the date and time of your signup, the date and time of your confirmation, and the IP addresses used for each. This record is stored by MailerLite and is used only as evidence of consent.
Your email address is stored for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, it is removed from the active mailing list immediately and you will receive no further emails. Your address and the associated consent record are then kept on a suppression list so you are not accidentally re-added, and so we can demonstrate that consent was validly given and validly withdrawn (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These records are deleted after three years unless a legal claim requires longer.
MailerLite may transfer data to servers outside the EU. Where this happens, the transfer is covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can read MailerLite's privacy policy at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
The signup form is protected against automated abuse by reCAPTCHA, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). reCAPTCHA analyses technical and behavioural information, including your IP address, browser and device data, and mouse and keyboard activity on the page, to tell human visitors apart from automated systems. This information is transmitted to Google and may be processed on servers in the United States, covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework under which Google LLC is certified. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting this website and our mailing list from spam and automated abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The fonts used on this website are hosted locally on our own server. No connection to Google or any other third-party font provider is established, and no data is transmitted to third parties for displaying fonts.
This website does not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics. It does use MailerLite for the newsletter and Google reCAPTCHA for spam protection, both described on this page.
Some of our service providers (Netlify, Inc. and MailerLite) are located in or process data in the United States. Data transfers to the USA are based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, ensuring an adequate level of data protection in accordance with GDPR Art. 45 & 46.
This website mentions a potential children's book, but the site itself and the newsletter and signup are aimed at adults. The newsletter is not intended for children under 14, and I do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Under Austrian law (§4(4) DSG), children under 14 need the consent of a parent or guardian for services like this. If you believe a child under 14 has signed up, write to jimothyraccoonbook@gmail.com and I will delete the address.
This site links to other websites, for example MailerLite. I have no control over what those sites do with your data. Their own privacy policies apply once you are there.
This site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Newsletter data is held by MailerLite, which applies its own technical and organisational measures. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to put your rights at risk, I will inform you and the Austrian Datenschutzbehörde as required under Art. 33 and 34 GDPR.
This policy may be updated if the site changes, for example if a new service is added. The version published here is always the current one. The date below shows when it was last changed.
Server logs collected by Netlify are automatically deleted after a short technical retention period (typically within 7 to 30 days).
Newsletter subscriber data is stored until you withdraw your consent or unsubscribe, after which your email address is removed from the active mailing list.
You have the right to access, rectify, or delete your personal data, to restrict its processing, to data portability, and to object to processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Austria, this is the Datenschutzbehörde, dsb.gv.at.
If you contact us via email, the information you provide (such as your email address and message contents) will be processed solely for the purpose of handling and responding to your inquiry (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). This data will not be shared without your consent and will be deleted once the matter is resolved or as required by statutory retention obligations.
